Take the guess work out of planning your summer garden, with a curated plan! For the first raised bed plan in my Summer Garden Plan series, I present the ultimate summer salad. In some areas it can get really hot – too hot – for lettuce. Cucumbers will climb up the A-frame trellis and provide much needed shade for your lettuce. Edible borage flowers add a refreshing beauty to any salad. Radishes add a spicy crunch and grow in about a month! Add a little sprig of dill and you are well on your way to a top notch salad! Now, for the show stopper – TOMATO. I opt for a large, indeterminate variety here. Whether you like cherry or beefsteak tomatoes, they are perfect for any summer salad. Lastly, round out your salad with a bit of sweet crunch with a gorgeous bell pepper. Bell peppers can be slow to fruit so I recommend for beginning gardeners to buy healthy, mature transplants. Are you convinced yet!? If you want the best salad, grow your own! Sweetgreen, who? Start with my garden plan below and customize as you see fit.
